‘Andor’ has Amazing Performances
I finally finished watching Star Wars Andor and I’ve decided it’s worth writing about and recommending that you give it a shot. The show revolves around the character of Cassian Andor, who was introduced in the movie Rogue One. I should mention that I gave up trying to watch Rogue One after a few attempts, because I kept getting lost and feeling like I had no clue what was going on (with any Star Wars spin off, this is liable to happen). I had a similar experience when we started Andor, but I preserved and eventually gained my storytelling bearings.
Since this is a Star Wars story, Andor has stunning visuals and a great cast. I like Diego Luna and don’t mind watching him, even if the story takes a little work on my part. But what makes Andor worth watching and sticking it out is the theme of subversiveness. The whole show is about a few rebels trying to overthrow the empire, but not with big ships and militias, but as a tiny band of insurgents. I don’t think any other Star Wars story demonstrates this nuance quite like Andor (or maybe Rogue One does but I wouldn’t know!).
All this wraps up to one performance, and if you decide to watch Andor for no other reason than to see superb acting, Stellan Skarsgård will not disappoint. His isn’t the only monologue to send chills down your spine, but here’s my favorite scene from the whole series. It was worth it just to get to this.
